J&K Police launch major crackdown on banned Jamaat-e-Islami; raids across valley

Several locations were searched in the districts of Pulwama, Kulgam, Anantnag, Sopore, Awantipura, Ganderbal, Bandipora and Shopian. In a major crackdown against the banned organisation Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), J&K Police on Wednesday conducted raids across the Kashmir valley and seized incriminating documents, electronic devices and printed literature.

Several locations were searched in the districts of Pulwama, Kulgam, Anantnag, Sopore, Awantipura, Ganderbal, Bandipora and Shopian. A police spokesman said that in a determined effort to curb unlawful activities, J&K Police conducted a series of coordinated raids across the district Pulwama, targeting individuals and premises associated with the proscribed organisation “Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI)”, banned under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Acting on credible intelligence inputs, multiple police teams, assisted by other security agencies, carried out simultaneous search operations at several identified locations. The operation was aimed at tracing networks and individuals attempting to revive JeI’s activities through covert and proxy means.

Several suspects have been detained for questioning to verify their involvement in unlawful or subversive activities.

These operations are part of J&K Police’s sustained preventive strategy to dismantle the terror–separatist ecosystem, disrupt its ideological and financial networks, and ensure that peace and normalcy remain undisturbed, Police said.

Raids were conducted at over 200 locations across the district of Kulgam. The raids were carried out at the houses and premises of JeI members and their associates, as part of sustained efforts to dismantle the terror ecosystem and its support structure at the grassroots level.

During the past four days, more than 400 Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs) have been conducted across different areas of the district at the premises of OGWs, JKNOPS, places where encounters took place in the past, and hideouts of active and killed terrorists.

These operations have led to the interrogation of around 500 individuals affiliated with banned outfits, many of whom have been bound down and shifted to District Jail Mattan, Anantnag, under preventive laws. More than 30 locations were raided by security forces across Sopore, Zaingeer, and Rafiabad areas.

The searches were based on credible intelligence inputs indicating attempts by JeI-linked elements to revive their activities under different fronts. Several suspects in Ganderbal have been detained for questioning to ascertain their role in unlawful and subversive activities.
