Historic Dalpat Sagar in Bastar Illuminated by 300,000 Oil Lamps, Stunning Drone Visuals Captivate Viewers

Bastar, India: The historic Dalpat Sagar lake in Jagdalpur, located in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, was transformed into a breathtaking spectacle on Sunday evening as nearly 300,000 oil lamps (diyas) lit up its surroundings, creating a mesmerizing view captured by drone cameras.

The grand illumination was organized by the Municipal Corporation and District Administration, with active participation from local residents, public representatives, and various social organizations. The event was led by Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao under the theme “One Lamp in the Name of Cleanliness and One Lamp in the Name of Vande Mataram.”

Following traditional prayers at Rani Ghat, thousands of lamps were lit simultaneously along the lake’s banks, dramatically enhancing the beauty of Dalpat Sagar. The glowing lamps reflected on the water, lighting up the land and sky alike. A spectacular fireworks display at around 8:00 PM added to the festive atmosphere, filling the area with celebration and joy.

The event also marked the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram,” India’s national song. Participants joined in a collective rendition of the song, while artists from the Badhai community presented soulful performances of Bastar’s traditional folk music.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao described the initiative as a “remarkable and meaningful resolution.” He announced that the state government has approved ₹100 crore (approximately $12 million USD) for the beautification and restoration of Dalpat Sagar. The tendering process has been completed, and work is expected to begin soon. He further assured continued government support if additional resources are required.

The event not only celebrated cultural pride and patriotism but also highlighted environmental awareness and community participation, making it a landmark occasion for the Bastar region.
