New Delhi । Dense fog engulfed the national capital early Saturday morning, severely disrupting flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport and leading to the cancellation of around 100 flights.
According to information available on the airport’s official website, low visibility conditions resulted in the cancellation of more than 50 departing flights and a similar number of arriving flights during the early hours of the day. Several other flights were delayed as fog continued to affect take-offs and landings.
The poor visibility caused inconvenience to hundreds of passengers, many of whom faced long waiting times at the airport. In response to the disruption, the Centre issued passenger-centric directions to airlines, instructing them to ensure proper care, timely communication, and assistance for affected travelers.
Airport authorities stated that operations were being closely monitored and advised passengers to check flight status with their respective airlines before heading to the airport. Weather officials indicated that foggy conditions are likely to persist during the morning hours over the next few days due to prevailing winter conditions in north India.
