Mumbai: Aditya Dhar’s directorial ‘Dhurandhar’ has emerged as a true box-office giant. Even after completing 32 days in theatres, the film continues to dominate despite a slowdown in daily earnings. With this, it has firmly secured its position among the Top 5 highest-grossing films in India. In contrast, last weekend’s release ‘Ikkis’, starring Agastya Nanda and veteran actor Dharmendra, is struggling to maintain pace at the box office.
‘Dhurandhar’ Maintains Its Grip on Day 32
According to box office tracking platform Sacnilk, ‘Dhurandhar’ earned around ₹4.50 crore on its fifth Monday (Day 32). With this, the film’s total India net collection has reached ₹776.75 crore, making it the highest-grossing Bollywood film in India to date.
While the film is still behind Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ (₹2070.3 crore) in terms of worldwide earnings, its domestic dominance remains unmatched.
Strong Worldwide Performance
‘Dhurandhar’ has also performed exceptionally well overseas. The film collected ₹1206.25 crore worldwide in 31 days, and its current global total stands at approximately ₹1211 crore. With this figure, the film has come very close to the worldwide box office numbers of ‘KGF: Chapter 2’.
Patriotic Action Drama Wins Hearts
The story of ‘Dhurandhar’ revolves around India’s response to Pakistan-backed terrorist conspiracies. Following incidents like the Kandahar hijacking and an attack on Parliament, the Indian government launches “Operation Dhurandhar.”
Ranveer Singh plays Hamza, a covert operative who infiltrates Pakistan via Afghanistan. He gains the trust of Mohammad Alam (Gaurav Gera) and gradually gets close to the dreaded Baloch gangster Rehman Dakait (Akshaye Khanna), setting the stage for a gripping mission. Despite its three-and-a-half-hour runtime, the film has managed to keep audiences thoroughly engaged.
‘Ikkis’: Powerful Story, Weak Box Office
On the other hand, ‘Ikkis’, directed by Sriram Raghavan, is facing a tough time at the box office. The war-drama biopic is based on the life of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, a Param Vir Chakra awardee who displayed extraordinary bravery during the 1971 Indo-Pak war.
The film stars Agastya Nanda, Dharmendra, Jaideep Ahlawat, Rahul Dev, and Sikandar Kher. The narrative unfolds across two timelines, beginning with retired Brigadier Madan Khetarpal (Dharmendra) visiting Pakistan and revisiting the legacy of his martyred son.
‘Ikkis’ Box Office Collection
According to reports, ‘Ikkis’ earned only ₹1.35 crore on its first Monday. The film’s total collection so far stands at around ₹21.50 crore. Made on an estimated budget of ₹60 crore, the film has managed to collect only ₹27 crore worldwide, indicating a disappointing box office performance.
Conclusion
While ‘Dhurandhar’ continues its historic run and has already achieved all-time blockbuster status, ‘Ikkis’, despite its emotional depth and patriotic theme, is failing to translate strong content into box office success. All eyes are now on how much further ‘Dhurandhar’ can push its global records in the coming days.
