PUNE, MAHARASHTRA: A training aircraft crashed near Baramati Airport in Pune district on Saturday after reportedly developing a technical problem during flight. The incident took place within the limits of Gojubavi village, triggering panic in the area.
The aircraft, operated by Red Bird Aviation, was reportedly flying at a low altitude when it encountered a technical issue. According to local accounts, part of the aircraft struck a streetlight pole before the plane crashed to the ground.
Trainee Pilot Escapes Serious Injury
Only one trainee pilot was reportedly onboard the two-seater training aircraft at the time of the accident.
The pilot narrowly escaped serious injury. No major casualties have been reported so far.
Soon after the crash, police reached the spot and secured the area. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Technical Failure Suspected
Preliminary information suggests that a technical malfunction may have caused the aircraft to lose control while flying at a low altitude. However, officials are yet to establish the precise cause of the crash.
Investigators are expected to examine the aircraft and other available evidence to determine whether the incident was caused by a mechanical failure or another factor.
Gojubavi Has Witnessed Another Major Aircraft Crash
Gojubavi village has previously been in the news following another aircraft accident.
On February 20, 2026, an aircraft carrying former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar crashed in the same area. All five people onboard were killed in that accident.
The latest incident has therefore renewed attention on aviation safety and training operations around the Baramati area.
