GPM, Chhattisgarh | A tragic road accident claimed the life of a B.Sc. second-year student who was on her way to appear for her college examination with her father on Saturday morning. The incident occurred on the Son River Bridge near Kotmi Outpost under the Pendra Police Station limits in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi (GPM) district of Chhattisgarh.
The deceased student, Gayatri, was riding on a moped with her father, Kripal Singh, when they were allegedly struck by a speeding truck during an overtaking maneuver. The impact was so severe that Gayatri died at the scene, while her father sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the District Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
How the Accident Happened
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when a truck attempted to overtake another vehicle while crossing the bridge. During the maneuver, Kripal Singh reportedly lost control of the moped, causing it to move dangerously close to the truck. Within moments, both riders came under the truck’s path, resulting in the fatal collision.
The narrow bridge and the truck’s overtaking attempt are believed to have contributed to the accident. Authorities are investigating the exact sequence of events.
Victim Was Traveling to Appear for College Examination
Police said Gayatri, a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) second-year student, was traveling to Pendra College to take her scheduled examination. Her father had accompanied her to ensure she reached the examination center safely.
The family belongs to Amjhar village under the Pasan Police Station area in Korba district.
Truck Driver Fled the Scene
Following the collision, the truck driver fled the scene along with the vehicle. Police have launched a search to identify and apprehend the accused driver.
Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby locations and highways to trace the truck. Officials expressed confidence that the accused would be identified and arrested soon.
Police Investigation Underway
Upon receiving information about the accident, teams from Kotmi Outpost and Pendra Police Station reached the spot. The victim’s body was taken into custody and sent for a post-mortem examination after completing the required legal formalities.
Police officials stated that strict legal action will be taken against the driver once he is identified.
