Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh — A disturbing incident from the Bilaspur district has triggered widespread public anger after a video surfaced showing an alleged assault inside the Ratanpur Police Station. The footage reportedly shows a complainant being slapped multiple times by a police officer, raising serious concerns about abuse of power and accountability within law enforcement.
Allegations of Bribery Followed by Assault
According to the complaint, the victim, Vinod Jaiswal, had been visiting the police station for several days seeking progress on an investigation report related to his case. He alleged that Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Dinesh Tiwari demanded and accepted money in exchange for preparing the report.
However, when Jaiswal questioned the delay despite the payment, the situation escalated. The ASI allegedly lost his temper and slapped the complainant repeatedly—reportedly between 15 to 20 times—inside the police station premises.
Video Evidence Intensifies Public Reaction
The incident might have remained internal, but a video capturing the alleged assault has now gone viral on social media. The footage appears to show the complainant being struck multiple times, while others present at the scene look on.
The video has fueled outrage among citizens and prompted sharp criticism of police conduct. Many are questioning how such an incident could occur inside a police station, a place meant to ensure justice and safety.
Intervention by IPS Officer Brings Immediate Control
Amid the chaos, trainee IPS officer Anshika Jain reportedly intervened after hearing the commotion. She stepped in, reprimanded the accused officer, and brought the situation under control.
While her timely action helped de-escalate the situation, the damage had already been done, with the incident quickly becoming a major talking point across the district.
FIR Registered, Officer Suspended
Following the complaint, an FIR was registered against ASI Dinesh Tiwari. Senior officials acted promptly, and the officer has been suspended pending further investigation.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajnesh Singh is now overseeing the case. Authorities have indicated that a departmental inquiry is underway and further legal action may follow if the allegations are substantiated.
Bigger Questions on Accountability
While the suspension is seen as an initial step, many are asking whether it is sufficient given the seriousness of the allegations—especially claims of bribery followed by physical assault.
The case has once again highlighted the urgent need for police accountability and transparency. If proven true, the incident could lead to stricter disciplinary measures and possibly criminal charges against the accused officer.
What Happens Next?
The focus now shifts to the outcome of the investigation. Will the case result in exemplary action, or will it remain limited to suspension?
For now, the viral video continues to circulate, keeping public pressure high and ensuring that this case remains under intense scrutiny.
