NALCO Signs MoU with NLC India for Energy Collaboration


Bhubaneswar, India – : National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a Navratna central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NLC India Ltd. (NLCIL) to strengthen cooperation in thermal and renewable energy development.

The MoU focuses on collaboration related to a 1,080 MW thermal captive power project as well as the development of renewable energy solutions to meet NALCO’s long-term and captive power requirements.

Strategic Energy Partnership

The agreement was signed in the presence of Shri Jagdish Arora, Director (Projects & Technical), NALCO, and Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman and Managing Director of NLCIL, along with other directors of NLCIL, at Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu.

Under the MoU, both companies will explore:

  • Long-term power supply arrangements
  • Coal supply linkages for thermal power generation
  • Opportunities for joint development of future energy projects

The partnership aims to provide NALCO with reliable and cost-effective power while aligning with sustainability goals through increased use of renewable energy.

The collaboration is designed to support NALCO’s operational energy needs while advancing cleaner and more efficient power generation. The framework also allows both companies to evaluate future joint ventures in the energy sector, including potential expansion into green and hybrid power projects.

NALCO is one of India’s largest integrated aluminum producers, with operations spanning bauxite mining, alumina refining, aluminum smelting, and power generation. NLC India is a state-owned enterprise with a diversified portfolio covering thermal power, lignite mining, and renewable energy development across India.
