Raipur, India: With Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations approaching, students across the country are intensifying their preparations. Chemistry, often considered one of the most challenging subjects, remains a major source of stress for many students. To address these concerns, subject expert Sunita Pandey has shared practical tips to help students perform better in the exams.
According to experts, regular revision and disciplined study schedules are essential for success in Chemistry. Students are advised to create a structured timetable and stick to it consistently, rather than relying on last-minute cramming.
Focus on Writing and Revision
Sunita Pandey explains that students, especially in Classes 11 and 12, often feel overwhelmed by chemical reactions. “When many reactions are studied together just before the exam, students tend to get confused,” she says. Writing reactions repeatedly while studying helps in long-term retention. Daily practice, followed by periodic revision, is one of the most effective strategies.
Formula-Based Questions Need Precision
Students from biology backgrounds often struggle with the numerical portions of Chemistry. Although the math component is limited, questions from topics like chemical kinetics, electrochemistry, and related chapters are commonly asked. Most numerical questions are formula-based, and experts warn that incorrect or missing units can lead to loss of marks, even if the method is correct.
Step-by-Step Answers Matter
In numerical problems, marks are awarded stepwise. Experts recommend that students clearly write formulas and show each step while solving problems to reduce the chances of losing marks.
For Class 10 students, Chemistry topics are more conceptual and connected to daily life. Common exam questions are based on acids and bases, hydrocarbons, chemical reactions in everyday life, their preparation, uses, and basic research concepts. Understanding applications, rather than rote memorization, is key.
Chemistry Can’t Be Learned in a Day
Experts stress that Chemistry is not a subject that can be mastered overnight. Lessons taught in school should be revised at home on the same day. Revisions should then be repeated the next day and once again at the end of the week, especially for chemical reactions. This cycle helps students retain information for longer periods.
Changed Blueprint, Changed Strategy
This year, the exam blueprint has changed, meaning some chapters have been removed and question patterns have evolved. Students are advised to study according to the latest blueprint and avoid spending time on excluded chapters. Solving previous five years’ question papers can still help students understand exam patterns, but they should align their preparation with the updated format.
Class 12 exams now also include objective-type questions, making conceptual clarity even more important.
Smart Time Management in the Exam Hall
Experts suggest that students should attempt questions they are most confident about first, without changing the official question numbering. Difficult questions should be attempted later, once confidence builds.
With systematic preparation, regular revision, and smart exam strategies, experts believe students can significantly improve their Chemistry scores and approach board exams with confidence rather than fear.
