Supreme Court Upholds High Court Ruling in Mungeli Fake Disability Certificate Case

Mungeli, Chhattisgarh — In a significant setback for government employees accused of securing jobs using fake disability certificates, the Supreme Court of India has upheld the Chhattisgarh High Court’s verdict in the widely discussed Mungeli case. The apex court clearly stated that there is no need for any interference in the High Court’s decision, allowing it to stand in full.

The case came to light after the Chhattisgarh Divyang Service Association released a list of 27 employees allegedly appointed to government positions on the basis of forged disability certificates. The disclosure caused widespread concern across the state and triggered legal scrutiny.

According to Santosh Tonde, State President of the Chhattisgarh Divyang Service Association, 24 of the accused employees challenged the High Court’s order by filing Special Leave Petitions (SLPs) before the Supreme Court. However, the Supreme Court dismissed the petitions, affirming that the High Court’s ruling was legally sound and required no modification.

In its order, the Supreme Court also clarified that the SLPs have been disposed of and all pending interim applications related to the matter stand closed. With this ruling, the legal protection sought by those accused of using fake disability certificates has effectively ended.

A Major Victory for Genuine Persons with Disabilities

The verdict is being hailed as a landmark decision in favor of genuine persons with disabilities. For years, disability rights groups have demanded strict action against individuals who misuse forged certificates to secure government employment, depriving rightful candidates of their opportunities.

Activists believe this judgment reinforces accountability and sends a strong message against misuse of welfare provisions meant for vulnerable sections of society.

Questions Raised Over Administrative Delay

Following the Supreme Court’s clear stance, serious questions are now being raised about the delay in administrative action. Disability organizations argue that with no legal obstacles remaining, the concerned departments must act swiftly and decisively.

They have demanded immediate disciplinary action, including dismissal from service, against those found guilty of fraud.

The ruling is expected to set a strong precedent across Chhattisgarh and beyond, potentially accelerating action against fake certification cases statewide in the coming days.
