Bilaspur, India | South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has taken a major step toward improving public healthcare in Chhattisgarh by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch an AI-enabled mobile medical unit focused on the prevention and treatment of tuberculosis (TB) and other lung-related diseases.
Under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, SECL has approved financial assistance of ₹4.99 crore for the implementation of ‘Project SHWAS’ in Korba district. The project will be carried out in partnership with Aashray Foundation, a non-profit organization working in the field of healthcare.
The MoU was signed at SECL Headquarters in Bilaspur in the presence of Shri Biranchi Das, Director (Human Resources), SECL. The agreement was exchanged between Shri C. M. Verma, General Manager (CSR), SECL, and Shri Nalin Johri, Executive Director, Aashray Foundation, along with senior officials from SECL’s CSR department.
Project SHWAS is the first AI-based mobile medical unit initiative of its kind in Chhattisgarh. The project aims to provide door-to-door health screening, early detection of TB and other pulmonary diseases, and timely linkage to medical treatment, especially for underserved and project-affected communities.
The mobile units will deliver preventive, promotive, and outpatient (OPD) healthcare services, ensuring early diagnosis and improved treatment outcomes. Key features of the initiative include early management of pre-TB symptoms, monitoring of treatment adherence, regular follow-up care, and distribution of hygiene and care kits to TB patients.
In addition, beneficiaries will receive monthly nutrition and wellness kits, along with mental health counseling services, addressing both physical and psychological aspects of long-term illness.
Through Project SHWAS, SECL reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening public health infrastructure and promoting clean, safe, and technology-driven healthcare solutions for vulnerable populations in its operational areas.
