Mungeli : The Health Department has taken strict action against Aakriti Hospital in Pathariya, Mungeli district, Chhattisgarh, after an inspection revealed serious irregularities, including the absence of doctors, discrepancies in surgical records, and inadequate cleanliness in the operation theatre (OT). The hospital’s OT and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) were sealed following the inspection conducted on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, under the directions of District Collector Amrit Vikas Topno and the guidance of Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr. S.K. Gupta.
The action was initiated following repeated complaints received through the CM Helpline 1076 regarding the functioning of private hospitals. As part of the department’s efforts to ensure compliance with prescribed healthcare standards and protect patient safety, a district-level health team conducted a surprise inspection of private healthcare facilities operating in the Pathariya development block.
Patient Found Undergoing Uterine Surgery
During the inspection of Aakriti Hospital, the team found that a 50-year-old woman, identified as Haran Bai Sahu, a resident of Roharakala village, had undergone or was undergoing a uterine operation at the hospital.
According to the Health Department, no doctor was present at the hospital when the inspection team arrived. The staff members present at the facility reportedly failed to provide satisfactory answers regarding the treatment and surgical procedure. The team also found discrepancies in the patient’s case sheet, raising concerns about the documentation of her treatment and operation.
The hospital staff identified a surgeon in connection with the procedure. However, according to the inspection report, the doctor whose name was provided reportedly expressed unfamiliarity with having performed surgery at Aakriti Hospital.
These circumstances prompted the inspection team to treat the matter as serious, particularly in view of the patient’s safety and the absence of a doctor at the facility during the inspection.
Patient Shifted to Mungeli District Hospital
Considering the patient’s medical condition and the circumstances surrounding her treatment, the health officials arranged for her immediate transfer to the District Hospital in Mungeli.
The woman was transported by a 108 emergency ambulance so that she could receive the necessary medical attention and specialist services. The decision was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure that she had access to appropriate medical care.
The department’s action highlighted concerns over the availability of qualified medical professionals and the arrangements required to ensure patient safety during and after surgical procedures.
Operation Theatre Found in Unsatisfactory Condition
The inspection team also found serious deficiencies in the hospital’s operation theatre. According to the Health Department, the OT lacked adequate cleanliness and had visible unhygienic conditions. The facility was reportedly not maintained in accordance with the prescribed standards.
Officials emphasized that maintaining proper hygiene, sterilization procedures, and infection-control measures is essential in any healthcare facility, particularly where surgical procedures are performed.
The reported deficiencies were considered significant because inadequate sanitation and infection-control arrangements can expose patients to additional risks during medical treatment and surgery.
The department stated that the conditions observed during the inspection were contrary to the standards prescribed under the Chhattisgarh Nursing Home Act and the applicable rules of 2013.
Hospital’s OT and ICU Sealed
Taking the reported irregularities seriously, the inspection team sealed the hospital’s operation theatre and ICU. The action was carried out in the presence of hospital operator Dr. Vishram Dhruv.
The sealing was undertaken in view of the absence of a doctor during the inspection and the other irregularities identified by the team. The department’s action was aimed at addressing concerns regarding compliance with healthcare standards and safeguarding patients.
The inspection, however, resulted in the sealing of the OT and ICU, as stated in the official information. The information provided does not indicate that the entire hospital building was sealed.
District-Level Health Team Conducted the Inspection
The inspection was conducted by a district-level team comprising the following officials:
- Dr. Girish Kurre – District Programme Manager, National Health Mission (NHM)
- Dr. Kamlesh Kumar – District Nodal Officer
- Dr. Amit Lal – Block Medical Officer, Pathariya
- M.L. Tande – In-charge Clerk, Nursing Home Act
The team examined the hospital’s functioning, the availability of medical professionals, the patient’s treatment records, and the condition of the operation theatre.
The findings led officials to take immediate action concerning the hospital’s OT and ICU.
Strict Action to Ensure Compliance with Healthcare Standards
The action against Aakriti Hospital sends a strong message to private healthcare facilities across the district regarding compliance with prescribed medical standards and regulations.
The Health Department has emphasized the importance of ensuring the availability of qualified doctors, maintaining accurate patient records, providing safe treatment, and adhering to hygiene and infection-control requirements.
The incident also underscores the importance of monitoring private hospitals to ensure that patients receive appropriate medical care and that facilities conducting surgical procedures maintain the required standards.
The surprise inspection was conducted following complaints received through CM Helpline 1076, reflecting the department’s efforts to respond to public grievances concerning private healthcare services.
The key concerns identified at Aakriti Hospital included the absence of a doctor during the inspection, discrepancies in the patient’s surgical records, unsatisfactory responses from the staff, and inadequate cleanliness in the operation theatre. Following these findings, the Health Department sealed the OT and ICU and shifted the patient to Mungeli District Hospital for further medical care.
The department’s action reinforces the need for private hospitals to comply with the applicable Nursing Home Act provisions and maintain patient safety as a priority in all medical procedures.
